Blueberry Oatmeal Muffins (Gluten & Dairy-Free Friendly!)

Hearty oatmeal muffins sweetened with maple syrup and packed with juicy blueberries.

There’s something so comforting about homemade blueberry muffins fresh from the oven. And these Blueberry Oatmeal Muffins are extra special because they’re hearty, adaptable, and can easily be made gluten and dairy-free.

These are the swaps I used in the recipe….hang with me and you’ll soon feel confident in looking at a recipe and spotting what you can swap and still have a delicious result!

Today I’m using

  • pure Vermont maple syrup from my parents’ farm as the sweetener in place of honey
  • soy milk instead of dairy
  • gluten-free flour instead of All Purpose. King Arthur makes my favorite for GF baking!
  • coconut oil instead of butter.

And one of my favorite things about this recipe is that you can make different sizes depending on who you’re baking for — little muffins for toddlers and bigger ones for the rest of the family.

I like our Brownie Pan and Brownie Bite Pan of the perfect sizes!  The pans are available separately or as part of a set.

Uniform muffins are easy to create with our Medium Stainless Scoop.   It’s my go-to for cookies and meatballs, too!

These muffins are very flexible depending on your family’s dietary needs and what you already have in the kitchen.

Be sure to Soak the Oats

One important step with this recipe:

The oats need to soak in the milk for about: 20–30 minutes

This helps soften the rolled oats since they’re less processed than quick oats.

I used soy milk today, but any milk works well.

Why I Love Using Maple Syrup

Instead of honey, I sweetened these muffins with pure maple syrup from my parents’ farm in Vermont.  Check out their amazing Pure Vermont Maple products! https://www.maplesyrupvermont.com/.

It adds wonderful flavor and makes the muffins feel just a little more wholesome and cozy.

Some tips when baking gluten-free:

  • I highly recommend weighing the flour instead of scooping it because gluten-free flour blends are denser than regular flour. That helps give you more consistent results.
  • When baking with regular flour, overmixing can create tough muffins because gluten develops. But with gluten-free flour, that’s not really an issue since there’s no gluten to develop.  That makes this recipe especially beginner-friendly for newer bakers.

Fun Flavor Variations
